Last week we regretfully informed you that the American election had an uncertain outcome… and that it was one of the most important and consequential elections in recent history. We discussed why the election seemed so close. We examined the economic situation in the United States under president Joe Biden, as well as over the last few decades. We looked at how the strategies of the Democrats and Kamala Harris suggested they were not listening to their base, and were not offering enough to their voters. We questioned if the Democrats were making a mistake by aiming to win never-Trump Republicans, and if it was alienating more voters than it was securing. Finally, we looked at the implications of a Trump presidency, if he were to win. We explored what his last term showed us about his attitudes toward international politics. We argued that a Trump presidency will bring chaos to major international institutions, including NATO, the UN, and the global effort to fight climate change.
