It’s time for Braden to get on his soapbox on this one folks.
Strap in it’s going to be a bit crappy, no pun intended.
I noticed at a job I work at the toilet paper in the men’s washroom loops underneath the spool instead of over the spool.
I immediately corrected it by putting it back. The next time I walked in, it was back on the spool the same way: it was rolled under.
(Insert angry growling noise)
Toilet paper works best when it rolls over the spool. And here is why:
It feels more natural to roll it over the paper. If you are sitting on the toilet and you have to drag out a toilet ticket, it is so much easier to find the first loose piece of the roll.
If you are in a rush or if you have a severe upset stomach, there’s some peace of mind knowing that you can find that first bit.
Second, it’s so much more sanitary and clean to leave the toilet roll hanging over the front. If it is hanging behind the dispenser, you have to touch more of the roll in order to find that first loose piece. I’m not going to dive too deeply into it, but if you are doing bathroom business it’s safe to say your hands are not clean in the slightest.
It’s true and I know it, I’m a guy. We could be here for hours about times I’ve heard toilets flush and then I don’t hear the sound of the bathroom sink going as the person walks out. Makes my stomach turn thinking about it.
Back to the topic at hand, having the roll go over means your dirty hands only touch what is needed and ensures that there are no hidden germs to fester, at least less germs than necessary.
It’s that simple, over is better than under with toilet paper.
My radio show doesn’t belong on toilet paper. Catch me Mondays from 1pm-3pm on sayradio.ca.
