At my house we like to do a traditional Friday Night Pizza dinner, but this past Friday I was upset when I came home late from work because we were all out of the Hawaiian Pizza. This might strike you as odd because most of you are thinking “he didn’t miss much, pineapple doesn’t go on pizza!”
This is a bit of a controversial topic, but I’m just going to come right out and say it:
Pineapple absolutely belongs on pizza.
For all of you Seneca foodies who are losing their minds right now, just hear me out. They say that fruit does not belong on pizza, but Tomatoes are technically berry fruits that are often used as vegetables. This might not be a revolutionary counterargument but there’s no accounting for taste as they say.
When I think of melted, gooey cheese, it’s salty and delicious if done right. Some pizza places use a blend of cheese, others use standard melted mozzarella. To contrast the flavours, it needs something sweet to go with the savoury if you catch my drift. Enter the delicious chunks of pineapple. When the pineapple is cooked along with the pizza the warmth in every bite is fantastic. I think you can’t go wrong with a little bit of sugary juice that mixes with the melted cheese. The final bit that goes with any Hawaiian pizza worth its salt is some pieces of ham or bacon. If you are permitted to eat ham and bacon, it rounds out the pizza so well by adding a bit of salted meat to go with the cheese.
The best part of all of this? You might agree with me if you like pineapple on pizza, and if you don’t? Hey, more power to you, only you know what you like with your food and what you don’t like. There are worse things you can put on pizza, and since Halloween is coming up I’ll add this: Candy corn should not be allowed anywhere near a pizza if you value not feeling like an extra 400 pounds.
