On May 12th Pentatonix posted on their Facebook page; a video and note of a very important message to all us Pentaholics. Avi Kaplan is leaving the group. I know i’m not the only who felt their heart drop as they saw that long post. I also know that I wasn’t the only one who started to tear up at the fact that our favorite Acapella group wouldn’t be the same anymore.
His reason for leaving is due to him wanting to be able to see his friends and family whenever he wants and PTX is a bit to fast paced for him to do that with out him slowing down the group have he definitely doesn’t want to do that. Take a look at more of the explanation here (WARNING – Tissues Needed:
Now after this post there has been talk that there might be a replacement for him. I can imagine the shocked looks on your faces because that is going to be difficult to find. Avi is the bass of the group so in general that is one of the huge parts of PTX but Avi’s voice has a very specific tone, so the person replacing him would basically have to have a replica of Avi’s vocal chords.
All in all I respect Avi’s decision to move forward on his own and with his own music. On his new project hes going by “Avriel & the Sequoias”. It’s different from what he used to do in PTX but it still sounds great! On behalf of all Pentaholics as long as you’re happy, we’re happy and we love you Avi!!
His EP “Sage and Stone” is out on iTunes now, but take a listen to one of his songs on YouTube now:
